CO2 Supply Solutions for Spot Cooling

PLASTINUM Mold Spot Cooling with CO2

Advancing temperature control in injection molding by cooling hotspots using carbon dioxide (CO2) - with an all-inclusive spot cooling package from Linde

Accelerating Cycle Times by up to 50%

Our PLASTINUM® Mold Spot Cooling solution advances temperature control in injection molding by ensuring uniform temperature distribution on the mold cavity surface. It uses liquid carbon dioxide (LIC) as an effective cooling medium for hotspots. Our carbon dioxide (CO2) supply and control concepts are engineered to create stable, predictable cooling results.

PLASTINUM Mold Spot Cooling can accelerate cycle times by up to 50% depending on the part geometry and material. In addition, CO2 results in more even temperature distribution along the mold surface. This greatly enhances the quality of the molded part by eliminating surface defects, sink marks and warpage.

Our CO2 supply and control concepts use LIC to cool hotspots. Supplementing conventional water cooling, this solution is ideal for areas of injection-molded products that are difficult to access due to limited space for water cooling channels or prone to material accumulation. In other words, areas where water or other cooling methods are ineffective or cannot be implemented.

The CO2 flows under high pressure (approx. 60 bar) through small, flexible capillary tubes to the point of use, where it expands to create a snow and gas mixture at a temperature of -79°C. The gaseous CO2 leaves the cavity through open exhaust channels.

End-to-End Offering

PLASTINUM Mold Spot Cooling with CO2 is precision-engineered to ensure the CO2 is injected in a controlled manner to help you achieve stable, predictable cooling results. It includes a tank with pressure-boosting equipment to supply liquid, virtually bubble-free CO2. This all-inclusive spot cooling package also comprises control devices, distributors, solenoid valves and capillary tubes. It can be easily retrofitted to existing installations.
